I think more important than using spin is to understand *when* to use it and how much to apply. I see lots who use way to much to get a (perceived) small benefit (that usually winds up placing them in an undesirable position).

In fact, for a completely new player (or just a casual player), control over a no spin shot is probably more important, since 90% of the game can be played with nothing more than understanding the amount of power to apply to a particular shot, but certainly understanding spin (and understanding it's effect on the target ball) would be an important next step.

Whoa, I never knew anyone could take that offensively heh. Lots of opponents have wished me luck, and I wish lots of people I play luck sincerely hoping they do better. I've had shots go in purely by luck, shots I never in a million years would have thought would go in, maybe I am a schmuck

Now for a tip, while learning, any stick can be a 'right' stick, but get used to that stick. I got used to the beginner cue from all the time I played as guest, and I use that stick all the way up to Berlin. The more power(s) a stick has, the more you will need to learn how to use it effectively. For instance, a lot of 'Force' on a stick may make it very difficult to do subtle lower power shots when required (i.e. your cue ball may travel farther than you want or desire it too, the same for the target ball if your trying to snooker someone or move it to a position for a future shot), so you will have to learn how to compensate for that.

thats a good tip that i also use the beginner cue probably 90% of the time I'm only good with power cues if I drink wine lol
