  • Real life Pool players

I am curious how many 8ball players that also play pool in real life? I have only played occasionaly in pubs. I stink, mostly because I never really had any practice.
This game has sparked my interest though, so I have bought myself an 8"" table for my mancave. I am waiting to have it installed. I also joined the local billiard club..

I played pool and snooker a lot years ago. There used to be 3 local halls near me where we used to go daily. I won a few pool competitions from a club that was set up, but mostly locals. I havent been on the green baize in probably 20 years though, as all the halls closed over time, and there are none where i live now.

          I have 2 questions:
          1. Will being good at real pool give you an advantage in 8ball pool, apart from in the very beginning?
          2. Can playing 8ball pool improve your real life skill?

            Yes and yes...
            Helps to know positioning.
In fact, that 80% of the good game.

That is interesting.. I haven't played much real pool myself, but this game sparked my interest to the point where I also want to learn real pool properly. Have joined the local pool club, but haven't started yet. Also waiting for a table at home..

There is a small bar on the back right there.. I will hang proper pool lamps over the table though, the light isn't quite strong enough I think..
Anyone wants to visit Norway are welcome

Only seeing these last few posts now. I would say yes also, if you played the game in real life it could help you in the game. But i remember when i started playing this game, i had questions because the game didnt react in some ways to the way i saw the game. But once you realised it was down to the mechanics of the game, you just needed to adjust to compensate. As for playing the online game first before playing real life pool, i cant answer that for sure. But at a guess, i would say yes also. If i can give you any tips about the real game, its learn to use the spin on the ball. Watch a load of videos on youtube if needed. There are plenty of shots you can do that cant be done on the online game like putting swerve on the ball as well. Theres also the option to jump the cue ball ball over your opponents ball which involves hitting the cue ball really low (this can apply to the swerve shot as well), and close to the table. But be careful of that as a mis-hit shot playing that could result in your cue going too low and ripping the cloth on the table.

Wasted teenage years in Pool Halls wanting to be a "Shark" like the local older Chinese Hustler in our neighborhood, got good at it but never a Hustler

Seems like to being a (worldwide) known pool artist is nothing you can wish for, instead you must be born to.

                                    1. Only in you know how to control the cue ball....how to go off multiple rails to get the cue ball in position for the next shot.
                                    2. Yes, you can practice online....watching where cue ball goes off rails and what angles etc.

Ace looking table there Svein. It has the spots on the rails as well to help you determine angles etc.
